First look at cover for The Legend from Bruce Rock

TODAY is an exciting day for FFPress, because it’s Cover Reveal Day and we’re unveiling the artwork for The Legend from Bruce Rock: The Wally Foreman Story!

We would call a national holiday, but somehow we don’t think that would fly.

The cover, pictured above, was designed by Ashley Storey of Ash Storey Creative Digital Media, with the brief detailing the following:

  • One primary colour
  • One monochrome image representation
  • Locked title graphic

From those limited details, the above was created and, needless to say, we love it.

Those points were given in the brief to reflect the personality of Wally Foreman, while creating a product that appropriately represented the book itself.

Wally Foreman was, in some ways, a contradiction: he was unassuming, yet bold; he was modest, yet aware and proud of his talents; and he was simple, yet complex.

Those characteristics led to the cover above.

The earthy tones reflect his country roots, as do the sheaves of wheat in the image, while the microphone represents the mode in which he connected with so many people.

The faint text scrolling in the background are the words of the poem, The Legend from Bruce Rock, dedicated to Wally Foreman by Mick Colliss, who kindly lent the name to the biography.

There are no blazing photos designed to strike the eye and no portrait images of the man himself (except on the inside front flap of the hardcover and the back of the paperback versions), because that just wouldn’t be Wally Foreman.

Instead, we hope the artwork turns passing heads and demands attention for its design, which is unassuming, yet bold; modest, yet proud; simple, yet complex.

The Legend from Bruce Rock: The Wally Foreman Story will be released on 29 July 2017 via all Australian bookstores, physical and online, and is distributed by Lightning Source. For more information, please contact FFPress (info@ffpress.com.au).
